Terms of use

These terms govern your use of the Demesne app and demesne.club, operated by Demesne Club Ltd. (to be completed at public launch). By creating an account you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use Demesne.

1. What Demesne is

Demesne is an invitation-only service for members of participating private clubs. It lets verified members choose to appear in their club's evening list, request introductions, and message after mutual acceptance. Demesne is not the club, and the club is not Demesne; your membership of the club is governed by the club's own rules.

2. Eligibility and accounts

• You must be 18 or over.
• You must be invited by a participating club and hold a genuine membership there. One account per person; your account is yours alone and may not be shared or transferred.
• You are responsible for keeping access to your email account secure, since sign-in codes are sent there.
• Your club may validate or revoke your access to its house on Demesne at its discretion. Revocation removes you from that club's directory.

3. House rules of conduct

Demesne runs on discretion. You agree to:

• Present yourself truthfully. Real name, real role, links that are yours.
• Treat a decline as final. A declined introduction is silent by design; do not attempt to discover or circumvent it.
• Never harass, stalk, threaten or intimidate another member, in the app or because of it.
• Never disclose another member's presence, identity or messages outside the app without their consent. What happens in the house stays in the house.
• Not use Demesne for unsolicited commercial approaches, recruitment spam or press enquiries.
• Not attempt to spoof presence, tamper with beacons, probe the service, or automate access.

We may warn, remove content, suspend or terminate accounts that break these rules. Membership-level actions are notified to your club. Where conduct is unlawful, we may inform the authorities.

4. Your content

You retain rights in what you post — your profile, introduction texts and messages. You grant us the limited licence needed to operate the service: to store, transmit and display that content to its intended recipients. We claim no other use. Report and block tools are built into every conversation; reports are reviewed within 24 hours.

5. Privacy

The privacy policy at demesne.club/privacy is part of these terms. In short: Ghost by default, presence erased when you leave, declines silent, no tracking, no data sales.

6. The service

• We aim for the service to be available and accurate, but it is provided "as is". Presence detection depends on your device, its settings and the club's beacons; it may occasionally miss or lag.
• We may change or withdraw features. Anything material will be announced in the app.
• We may suspend the service for maintenance or security.

7. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for fraud, or death or personal injury caused by negligence. Otherwise, our liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (the app is currently free, so this may be nil), and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for the acts of other members or clubs.

8. Ending things

You may delete your account at any time in the app (You → Privacy Centre → Delete account) or via demesne.club/delete-account. We may suspend or terminate accounts under section 3, or if required by law. Sections that by nature survive termination do so.

9. General

• These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales; courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence.
• If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest stands.
• We may update these terms; material changes will be notified in the app at least 14 days before they take effect.
